MACT Successfully Conducts State-Level Consultation on Strengthening the 5.3 Policy in Tamilnadu
Chennai, Tamil Nadu – March 20, 2025 – The Tamil Nadu Mary Anne Charity Trust (MACT) successfully organized and conducted a state-level consultation today, focusing on the vital topic of strengthening 5.3 policy measures to address the tobacco industry’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), E-cigarettes, and the sale of chewable tobacco products in Tamil Nadu.
The consultation, which took place on March 20, 2025, at Hotel Benz park, T.Nagar, brought together key participants from various government departments and other stakeholders involved in the enforcement of tobacco control laws across the state. Experts, policymakers, and advocates discussed the latest challenges and opportunities to strengthen tobacco control policies and safeguard the health of the public, especially the younger generation.
The primary agenda of the consultation was to discuss actionable solutions for tackling the growing concerns related to tobacco-related CSR activities, the rising use of E-cigarettes, and the unchecked sale of chewable tobacco products, which continue to pose significant health risks.
MACT remains committed to taking forward the points discussed during the consultation and ensuring that Tamil Nadu continues to lead the way in tobacco control efforts across India.
