25th June 2026, Chennai:  Kauvery Hospital Chennai & Lions District 3241C Launches Mobile Mammogram to Improve Access to Early Breast Cancer Screening.

Kauvery Hospital successfully launched its Mobile Mammogram Unit, a CSR initiative in association with Lions Club of Chennai KVG Charitable Trust and Lions District 3241 C. The dedicated mammography van aims to improve access to early screening, especially for women who may face challenges in visiting a hospital or diagnostic centre for routine mammograms. By bringing screening services into communities, the mobile unit will support timely detection and encourage greater awareness about breast health.

 

The Mammogram van was flagged off by Thiru P Venkatramanan, Hon’ble Minister of Food and Civil Supplies, Government of Tamil Nadu. 

The Mobile Mammogram Unit is equipped to provide digital mammography screening in a convenient and accessible setting. It will travel to residential areas, workplaces, community centres, and other locations across suburban and urban regions, helping women prioritize preventive health.

In addition to digital mammography for breast cancer screening, the mobile unit will also offer Pap smear and Colposcopy services, making it an all-in-one women’s wellness unit focused on preventive screening and early diagnosis. Pap smear tests help screen for early changes in the cervix that may indicate cervical cancer or pre-cancerous conditions, while colposcopy allows for a closer examination of the cervix when further evaluation is required. The unit will also have women consultants and radiologists from Kauvery Hospital, who will counsel women on the findings and advise them on the next steps, wherever required. 

Speaking at the launch, PMJF Lion S Bose, District Governor 3241 C, Lions International said, “Breast cancer continues to be one of the most common cancers affecting women in Tamil Nadu. Due to lack of awareness and access many women do not get screened at the right time. Through this initiative we aim to bring screening closer to women in urban , semi urban and rural areas. We are pleased to collaborate with Kauvery Hospital, one of the leading healthcare chains in Tamil Nadu.” 

Speaking on the prevalence of breast cancer, Dr Sujay Susikar Senior Consultant Surgical Oncology and Robotic Surgeon said, “State cancer registry data shows that breast cancer is the leading cancer among women, highlighting the urgent need for timely screening and early detection. With the latest advancements in cancer treatments , breast cancer is now treatable when detected early. Many women delay diagnosis due to lack of access and awareness. With this Mobile Mammogram Unit, we are taking screening closer to women helping them detect concerns early, seek timely treatment, and improve outcomes.”

நவீன மேமோகிராம் சாதனம் பொருத்தப்பட்ட இந்த நடமாடும் மருத்துவ ஊர்தியை, தமிழ்நாடு அரசின் உணவு மற்றும் நுகர்பொருள் வழங்கல் துறை அமைச்சர் திரு. ப. வெங்கடரமணன்அவர்கள் கொடியசைத்துத் தொடங்கி வைத்தார்.

இந்த நடமாடும் மேமோகிராம் வாகனம், மார்பகப் புற்றுக்கட்டிகளைக் கண்டறிவதற்கான டிஜிட்டல் மேமோகிராபி பரிசோதனையை மிகவும் வசதியாகவும் எளிதாகவும் வழங்கும் வசதிகளைக் கொண்டுள்ளது. குடியிருப்புப் பகுதிகள், பணியிடங்கள், சமுதாயக் கூடங்கள் மற்றும் புறநகர், நகர்ப்புறங்களின் பல்வேறு இடங்களுக்கு நேரடியாகச் சென்று இவ்வாகனம் சேவை வழங்கும். இது, பெண்கள் தங்களது ஆரோக்கியத்திற்கு முன்னுரிமை அளிக்க வேண்டும் என்ற விழிப்புணர்வை ஏற்படுத்த உதவும்.

மார்பகப் புற்றுநோய் கண்டறிதலுக்கான டிஜிட்டல் மேமோகிராபியுடன், இந்த நடமாடும் வாகனம் 'பேப் ஸ்மியர்' (Pap smear) மற்றும் 'கோல்போஸ்கோபி' (Colposcopy) பரிசோதனை வசதிகளையும் வழங்கும். இதனால், பெண்களின் ஒட்டுமொத்த நல்வாழ்வு மற்றும் நோய் தடுப்புப் பரிசோதனைகளுக்கான ஒரே இடமாக (All-in-one wellness unit) இந்த வாகனம் செயல்படும். பேப் ஸ்மியர் பரிசோதனை, கர்ப்பப்பை வாய் புற்றுநோய் அல்லது அதற்கான ஆரம்பகட்ட மாறுபாடுகளைக் கண்டறிய உதவுகிறது. மேலும், கூடுதல் பரிசோதனை தேவைப்படும் பட்சத்தில் கோல்போஸ்கோபி மூலம் கர்ப்பப்பை வாய் பகுதியை மிக நெருக்கமாகப் பரிசோதிக்க முடியும். இந்த வாகனத்தில் காவேரி மருத்துவமனையின் பெண் மருத்துவர்கள் மற்றும் கதிரியக்க வல்லுநர்கள் (Radiologists) உடன் இருப்பார்கள். அவர்கள் பெண்களின் பரிசோதனை முடிவுகளை ஆய்வு செய்து, தேவையான ஆலோசனைகளையும் அடுத்தகட்ட வழிகாட்டுதல்களையும் வழங்குவர்.
