KARUNAAS AND VETRI JOIN HANDS FOR CRIME THRILLER ‘RAVEN’ ;

Inspired by the impact of a real-life criminal case, the V. Vetrivel Chandrasekar directorial has completed shooting and is gearing up for a theatrical release this year.

Bringing together an intriguing combination of crime, suspense and social relevance, Raven, starring Karunas and ‘8 Thottakkal’ fame Vetri in the lead roles, has completed its shooting schedule and is currently progressing through post-production. Produced by Sellamuthu Kuppusamy under the banner of Ponport Creatives Solutions Private Limited, the film is directed by V. Vetrivel Chandrasekar, who makes his directorial debut with this project.

The film features an ensemble cast comprising Vani Bhojan, Anumol, Raveena, Vishwamitran, ‘Ratchasan’ Vinoth Sagar, Saravanan Sakthi, Subatra and several others in pivotal roles. With its premise rooted in the impact of a real-life criminal case, Raven promises to explore a gripping narrative that intertwines crime, cultural beliefs and a longstanding social issue.

Director V. Vetrivel Chandrasekar, who has previously written the story, screenplay and dialogues for the JioHotstar web series Office and the film Pizza 3, has also penned the story, screenplay and dialogues for Raven. The film draws inspiration from the novel Padukala Kaathai, written by Nandhan Sridharan, and adapts its underlying themes into a crime thriller with a distinctive narrative approach.

Speaking about the film, director V. Vetrivel Chandrasekar said, “Raven is a crime thriller developed based on Nandhan Sridharan’s novel Padukala Kaathai. An actual criminal case from Tamil Nadu, involving a serial killer reportedly linked to around 30 murder and sexual assault cases a few years ago before being arrested, has also played a significant role in shaping the film’s narrative. We have drawn inspiration from the impact of this incident and adapted it into a crime thriller, presenting the subject from a different perspective.

“The crow plays a significant role in the film. The beliefs our ancestors associated with crows have been deeply rooted in our culture for generations, and this cultural connection forms an important part of the story. With the support of computer graphics technology, we have created a lifelike crow that we believe will offer audiences a visually engaging experience on the big screen.

“Through Raven, we have attempted to explore the significance of the crow while also addressing an important social issue that has existed in our society for a long time.”

Shot extensively across Chennai, Coimbatore, Erode and several other locations, Raven has completed its principal photography. The team has also completed the visual effects work and is currently moving ahead with the remaining post-production activities, with plans to bring the film to theatres later this year.

With a compelling premise, an ensemble cast and a narrative that connects crime with cultural beliefs and social realities, Raven is gearing up to make its mark on Tamil cinema.
